Banstead
There have been 22 reported crimes of various incidents in the Banstead area since 1st October to 31st October 2007.
The Section 30 Dispersal Order is still in place in Banstead and came into its own on Halloween when five Yellow Dispersal cards were issued to youths in the area.
Despite the high police presence on Halloween, a number of minor criminal damages occurred and were reported to us. This is a seasonal event which unfortunately affects the crime figures for the month of October 2007.
There has been an increase in burglaries across the division as a whole and sadly four have occurred in the Banstead area.
The next Beat Panel Meeting for Banstead ONLY is on Thursday 6 th December 2007 at 730pm at the Junior School in the Horseshoe Banstead.
Nork
There have been 21 reported crimes of various incidents in the Nork area since 1 st October to 31 st October.
There have been a few problems this month with regards to youths hanging around the Eastgate flats. They have been spoken to and the necessary Police action has been taken, as well as requesting them to be more considerate to people living in the area. PCSO Nicola Dooris is currently looking at holding a youth forum with the youths to discuss the issues.
As per the entry in Banstead, despite the high police presence in the area on Halloween a number of minor criminal damages were reported to us. This again unfortunately affects the crime figures for the month of October.
PCSO Nicola Dooris has arranged a NHW Meeting on 30 th November 2007 at 7pm in the Briefing Room at Banstead Police Station. She hopes to see as many of you there as possible.
The next Neighbourhood Panel Meeting for Nork is to be held in December or January, the date is yet to be confirmed. This will be for Nork Only.
This is a joint agency meeting which will be chaired by a Surrey County Councillor for local residents to express their concerns about local issues that affect the environment in which they live and work. We look forward to welcoming all.
Woodmansterne and Chipstead
There have been 5 reported crimes throughout the two areas from 1 st October to 31 st October 2007.
The area in general has not had many problems, but PCSO Dave Martin is currently running two neighbourhood issues in the area. The first being the area around the Old Walcountains Sports Ground and Carshalton Road, Neighbourhood Issue B/07/4852. The problems are mainly around anti social behaviour at and around the Bus Stop in Carshalton Road. PCSO Martin is speaking regularly to the residents and also to the Bus Company.
The second Neighbourhood Issue is B/07/11756 which is the area of High Road, Chipstead. This issues concerns reports of speeding vehicles on the High Road. One police iniative is Community Speed Watch, to date people have complained about the speeding, but not many people have volunteered to assist with the Community Speed Watch. For more information regarding the Community Speed Watch please contact PCSO Dave Martin on the numbers / e-mail below.
If you have any updates in relation to either of the Neighbourhood Issues, please contact PCSO Martin.
There have also been reports of several burglaries across the Division, sadly again some of these have occurred in the Chipstead / Woodmansterne area.
The next Neighbourhood Panel Meeting for Woodmansterne is to be held on Friday 9 th November 2007 at 8pm in the Woodmansterne Village Hall, Carshalton Road.
This is a joint agency meeting which will be chaired by Surrey County Councillor Angela Fraser for local residents to express their concerns about local issues that affect the environment in which they live and work. We look forward to welcoming all.

Theft of Push Bikes
There has been a large increase in theft of push bikes from both residential areas and street across the whole of the East Surrey Division. Please ensure that all bikes are left locked and secure, even at your home address.
Postal Scam
Please be aware of the following, especially with Christmas fast approaching. It has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service)suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk
Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Make a difference to your community, join your local Neighbourhood Watch, help to reduce crime, deter opportunistic thieves and make your neighbourhood safer.
When you move into a Neighbourhood Watch area, a warm welcome awaits you. Your neighbours will look out for you, and you will be encouraged to do the same for them and especially the more vulnerable in the community.
You will be given help to make your home more secure and to mark your property to help in its recovery, if stolen.
There may be no scheme in your area, so you could get together with your Neighbours and start a new one, you will be given support and encouragement to do so from your local contact.
There is now a Home Office Approved NHW Web Site. This site contains lots of useful information from setting up NHW, the logos, insurance and useful web links.
Details are: - nwatch@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.
Surpol – Keyholder Details
Surrey Police also run a key holder database, so they can contact the key holder in an emergency, all data is stored securely and treated confidentially. If you would like to know more about the scheme, please visit the SurPol website.
Naturally, as a Surrey property owner, you want to take every precaution necessary to protect your property.
The SurPol system is available to all residential and non-residential properties in Surrey regardless of whether or not they are fitted with an alarm. As this is a web-based system it allows all web-enabled addressees to update their own details and gives Surrey Police improved 24/7 access to the current keyholder information.
The SurPol keyholder database contains records of residential and non-residential properties in Surrey and their associated keyholders. These records can be accessed via a secure process by Surrey Police, other emergency services and local borough council environmental health departments in the event of an emergency. The database is operated and maintained by Dial Media Group Limited, the Internet Service Provider to Surrey Police.
Keeping my House Secure
Many burglaries occur whilst houses are empty with the occupants either at work or on holiday. Do we really take enough security precautions whilst away from home.
Yes we all do the usual things like cancelling the milk and papers then making sure all the windows and doors are locked. Incidentally, when you cancelled those papers did you stand in the shop and say “please cancel the papers for the next two weeks” to a shop full of strangers?
Try to make your house look occupied by maybe investing in some time switches to switch certain lights on and off in downstairs rooms or even a radio. You may think that drawing curtains is a good idea but during the daytime it’s a clue to nobody being home.
Reducing the opportunity or temptation to the burglar is often the best way so if there’s a view into the downstairs front room from the roadside, move valuables out of direct view. Talking of views, how about trimming back hedges and large plants to reduce places were a burglar could work unseen.
I would suggest speaking with a neighbour and ask them to keep an eye on your house. They could ensure that anything left protruding from the letterbox is removed or pushed through. What about them parking their car on your driveway to give the impression that someone’s home? If you live in a Neighbourhood Watch area let your co-ordinator know you are away.
One more thing to remember is the security of your garage and sheds, having first put away all tools and ladders. If you cannot get the ladder in either of them secure it with a good quality chain and padlock. Leave nothing that could be used to assist the burglar to break into the house.
On the day of your departure all you have to do is have one last check around before you get in that taxi to the airport. So when you’re standing at the check in queue all you have to worry about is whether you’ve all got seats together, providing that is, you haven’t already written your home address on the luggage labels!
A little bit of forethought will give you peace of mind whilst away.
Please check our Surrey Police Website regularly for updates.
